Tornado sirens went off today at 3:05pm, preceeding unconfirmed reports of multiple tornado/funnel cloud sightings in various areas (outside of lone tree, along the interstate, among others) in Muscatine County. As of this point, the majority of the storm has passed Muscatine county and is in the northeastern area, and the all clear sirens have sounded.

Muscatine's city council meeting today began with the swearing in of a couple new public safety officers, which preceded the recognition of Officer Mark Lawrence for his work in arresting stolen good traffickers, trafficking more than a quarter million in stolen goods.

The city also approved various bills and resolutions with little discussion, including the use of 2nd Street for Cinco de Mayo for Mami's, bond approval, and a cigarette permit holder violation settlement. There was some discussion about items related to the Muscatine Municipal airport.

"This is a very worthwhile investment," said Jerry Lange during a discussion about investing in new bullet proof vests for our police officers, which would allow officers to replace older bullet proof vests.
