Tradgedy struck a normally quiet neighborhood when a suicide occurred at 1011 Cypress Ave, after a man who reportedly had shot at police had shot himself. Lee Romine, 33, was determined by police to be dead in the Kitchen a little before 8:00pm today.

At approximately 5:45pm, Muscatine police were called to a domestic disturbance on the 1000 block of Cypress street, between Family Video and Heinz.

"This is one of those situations that comes out of the blue," said Mike Scott, assistant chief of police.

Two shots were reportedly fired at the officers as they arrived at the scene.

The five candidates vying for the position of Sheriff in Muscatine County will have an opportunity to talk about their platform to the voters on Wednesday, April 16.

The Muscazine, an online e-zine about Muscatine, is holding a candidate’s forum/debate in the Council Chambers of Muscatine City Hall at 6pm. Each of the five candidates, both republicans and democrats, have been invited.

Two republicans and one democrat will be eliminated from the running after June, where the republican and the democratic party each has a primary to determine their party’s candidate.

Wednesday’s debate will feature two moderators taking turns asking questions of the five candidates, and will probably be aired on local public access.

About mid morning today, March 27, a flurry of snow (with a light mix of thunder) descended from the skies, blanketing the town in white, and making the tress glisten. Normal temperatures for this late in March hover around 50°F. Just yesterday the temperature hit a more spring-like high of 54°F.

Several hundred students came to the Muscatine Mall for this year's Science Fair, armed with weeks of research and often elaborate presentations. There were over 200 entries this year, although it seemed that including parents and other students the mall was, in an unusual situation, packed with 500 or more people.

Students featured their research on a variety of subjects, including those often done, and some more unique projects.
